Description:

The Federal Community Defender Office has a vacancy for an experienced Investigator/Mitigation Specialist in its Capital Habeas Unit. The Unit represents death-sentenced prisoners in federal habeas corpus evidentiary and appellate proceedings throughout Pennsylvania.
The Investigator/Mitigatin Specialist is responsible for supporting the development of the mitigation aspect of the Unit's cases and other duties
including locating witnesses, serving supoenas, locating and retrieving documents and other evidence. Applicants must possess substantial investigative experience and also mitigation experience preferred. The position requires knowledge of federal and state courts systems and familiarity with federal habeas corpus or other post-conviction litigation and/or complex federal civil or criminal litigation. Candidates must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team-based approach; must possess a valid driver's license, insurance and own/operate personal vehicle for business purposes. Fluency (oral or written) in Spanish is preferred, but not required; ability to engage in significant overnight travel throughout the Commonwealth and out of state is required. Salary will be based on years of experience consistent with federal guidelines and regulations.
